Current stable version.

• current stable product version is 1.00.XXXX , where XXXX represents PATCH number.
• Some obvious improvements and missing functionalities are listed inside the TODO.LIST . Do not hesitate to send remarks using sourceforge tracking, if you find out other improvements that I missed : they are welcomed.
• Of course as usual well known bugs are described inside the BUGLIST , with their expected fix date if any known.
• YaFtp, is Free software. Read the License Agreement before going to the Download Place. You are assumed to agree with it before downloading the software.

LIST OF IMPROVEMENTS	- Since Version 1.0.0010 of YaFtpFrame is provided as free binary utility. - Regression in V1.0.0010 the non PDS dataset are not visible. fixed in V1.0.0011. - improving the local file renaming and deletion os dependent problem capture V1.0.0012. - Fixing a MVS ftp server recognition on OS390 V2R10 FTP.(V1.0.0013) - The Main YaFtpFrame can now be minimized, or maximized.(V1.0.0013) - A shortut has been added to provide a connection push on enter key on each field of the connection panel(V1.0.0013)

What's next.

• The next version content is mainly depending on what has been requested through sourceforge mailling lists and reported problems. .

The origin of the project.

As usual on such project, the all story starts with some motivations :

• RFC765 which describes the FTP protocol is one of the most used by developpers. I have been involved with this RFC for years inside misc projects on both MVS,UNIX and WINTEL systems.
• As a developper, I was unable to find a FTP client interface which was usable both as a client GUI interface and easy to integrate into JAVA applications. I started working with JAVA in 1996 using the poor AWT API existing that time switching quickly to the promising SWING library as soon as sun make them available.
• So my basic goal was to provide both a GUI frontend JavaBean FTP API, a presentation free API, and a standard FTP java portable client application, able to run on any JAVA 1.1 compliant platform.
• I did not also never find a ftp client which was able to adapt itself to OPERATING SYSTEM's idiosynchrasies( ie on MVS the IBM ftp extends the RFC standards to provide usefull functionalities to SUBMIT MVS JOBS, listing JES HOLD QUEUES , connecting DB2 system ....). AFAIK, All existing FTP client where not able to guess anything about their FTP server's host environment and prevent the client side programmer or user to make usage of those extra interesting functionalities, in providing extra GUI tools where those extra functionnalities are made available.

I worked on the first version during my hollydays in summer 2000.The first BETA version( YaFtp 0.0.1)has been made available(almost to myself :=) ) by the end of September 2000. Since I have been busy working on a JES2 Big project at the beginning of september 2000, I have not been able to drop the work in an acceptable usable state until November 2000.
